Public Works Technician

WAGE: $18.00-$25.00/HOUR

POSITION SUMMARY

Triview Metropolitan District is a special district located within the Town of Monument, Colorado, approximately 20 miles north of Colorado Springs. Triview Metropolitan District is responsible for the maintenance of approximately 50 miles of roads and 60 acres of parks and open space. Triview is seeking two Public Works Technicians who will be responsible for the operation of a variety of construction and maintenance equipment and performing manual labor activities as needed and/or required by the district. Technicians will work in park maintenance, road maintenance, including operating snow removal equipment, street sign installation and other tasks assigned by the Parks and Public Works Superintendent.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This position is a full time plus overtime, non-exempt position. This position requires the operation of district-owned vehicles, pickup trucks, backhoes, dump trucks, salt spreaders, snow plows and requires the ability to operate a variety of power tools, including but not limited to large mowers, chain saws, air compressors, string trimmers, edgers, blowers, etc. Technicians will be required to inspect and repair equipment and small engine maintenance according to department procedures as well as be able to assist in making repairs to district roads, curbs and sidewalks as required.

The selected candidates will mow, trim and edge grass, prune trees and hedges, plant flowers and trees, and repair and adjust sprinkler heads, along with replacing irrigation valve box appurtenances. Technicians will maintain storm drainage catch basins and assist with the maintenance of detention ponds. Sweeping and cleanup of debris and materials from the roads will be required, as well as snow and ice removal, including snow shoveling and conducting other job-related duties.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

A valid Colorado driver’s license is required at the time of hire as well as three years of experience working as a public works and/or parks maintenance worker with similar skills as described above. The selected candidate must demonstrate the ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions and work independently as required.

The candidate will perform heavy manual labor, including lifting heavy objects, occasionally working on irrigation system main lines, and must be able to work in all weather conditions. Safety procedures and practices are required as is wearing district supplied safety equipment at all times. A good working relationship with co-workers and the general public is a necessity. The candidate must be able to be called out for emergencies such as snowfall, floods, downed trees, etc. and must be knowledgeable in a variety of semi-skilled and skilled maintenance tasks.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

High School diploma and a clean driving record.

The pay range is $18.00 – $25.00 depending upon experience, plus district benefits that include medical, dental and vision insurance, along with paid vacation time and sick leave.
