Fire Mitigation Work Begins

The Triview Metro District has started a fire mitigation project that will help make our community safer from the kind of wildfires we have seen in other parts of our state. As part of the project, we are removing fallen tree branches and dead trees, pruning mature ponderosa tree limbs, removing scrub oak that have grown under ponderosa tree, removing clumps of scrub oak leaving a minimum of 10 feet between clumps,  and ridding the area of pine needles, dead leaves and other debris that would fuel a fire.

We are beginning the work immediately east of Promontory Pointe starting adjacent to the cul-de-sac on Transcontinental Way, and we will continue north-northeast toward the rock formation and water tank storage facility on Saint Lawrence Way. Additionally, we are working with Classic Homes and the developers of Home Place Ranch to review the areas between the northern end of the intersection of Promontory Pointe, Sanctuary Pointe and Home Place Ranch to discuss potential mitigation measures.

The primary goal of this project is to reduce the wildfire risk to our community, or at least delay fires reaching residential areas and allowing residents additional time to evacuate safely. We are quickly approaching what is traditionally Colorado’s fire season, so you will see district employees and subcontractors working in these areas over the next few weeks.
