POSITION SUMMARY
Triview Metropolitan District, a special district in the Town of Monument, Colorado, is located about 20 miles north of Colorado Springs. The District maintains approximately 50 miles of roads and 60 acres of parks and open space. Triview is hiring a full-time Public Works Technician “Gardener” to operate construction and maintenance equipment, perform manual labor as needed, and support park and road maintenance, including snow removal. This position also performs duties assigned by the Parks and Public Works Superintendent.
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This is a full-time (40 hours per week) plus overtime, non-exempt position. This position requires the operation of District-owned vehicles, pick-up trucks, UTVs, tractors, salt spreaders, snowplows, and requires the ability to operate a variety of power tools, including but not limited to large mowers, chain saws, air compressors, string trimmers, edgers, blowers, etc.
The selected candidate will perform the following:
- Landscape bed weed control — manual, chemical, and or machinal
- Prune and deadhead perennials, shrubs, and trees
- Maintain plant health
- Ensure irrigation needs are adequate for the time of year
- Deep-root fall fertilizer trees
- Winter water trees and shrubs
- Mow, trim, and edge grass; plant flowers, shrubs, and trees
- Make sure all landscape beds are maintained and well kept
- Assist with landscape enhancement projects
- Sweep and clean up debris and materials from the roads
This position will be required to participate in snow and ice removal, including manual snow shoveling, as well as other job-related duties as assigned. The selected candidate must also be willing to be on call and work long shifts at all hours of the day for emergencies and snow operations.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
A valid Colorado driver’s license is required at the time of hire. Three years of experience working as a public works and/or parks maintenance worker with similar skills as described above. The selected candidate must demonstrate the ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions and work independently as required.
The candidate will perform heavy manual labor, including lifting heavy objects, and be able to work in all weather conditions. Safety procedures and practices are required, such as wearing District-supplied safety equipment. A good working relationship with co-workers and the general public is a necessity. The candidate must be able to be called out for emergencies such as snowfall, floods, downed trees, etc., and must be knowledgeable in a variety of semi-skilled and skilled maintenance tasks.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- High School diploma.
Starting salary is $24.00-$28.00 per hour, depending on experience, plus full District benefits that include medical, dental, and vision insurance along with vacation time and paid sick leave.
